It's been asked many times, and the answer is:
YES, I do take commissions
Sig Icons take about an hour to complete. Full Character Sketches generally
take right around 3 hours. Commissions are billed at $30 an hour.
Please see some of the recent commission
examples below.
When you commission artwork, the finished artwork belongs to you. This means
that at the end of the project the original artwork is mailed to you to do with
as you please.
Pieces are scanned and colored with Adobe Photoshop at internet resolution (72dpi)
unless you request otherwise. Keep in mind though that the higher the resolution
the image is colored at, the longer the project will take, and thus the more time
you will have to pay for.
To get started:
If you've read the info above and decided that you might like to commission
some artwork, email me at: woody@a5.com
Include the following information to help me get an idea of what would be required
to complete the piece: The characters name, screenshots, character details (hair color, eye color, etc.),
a description of exactly what you want (as specific as you can be), and anything else you think
I should know to make the image look like what you're imagining.
Process:
After reading over the description, I'll email you and we'll talk about your commission
further. When we're in agreement on what you're looking for, and the cost of the work, I
will send you a Money Request via PayPal. When this Money Request is payed work will begin
on your commissions as soon as is possible.
When the rough sketch is complete, it will be emailed to you for your approval.
If changes need to be made, this is the best time to request them. Major changes
COULD lead to further billable hours. To date, no one has ever requested a major
change be made to the initial sketch. If you approve of the sketch, I will ink and
color it immediately.
When the colored image is complete, I will mail it to you. If color changes need to be made,
simply say so. Color changes are easy and can be made at NO cost to you. If you like the image
let me know that you consider the project done, and your original artwork will be mailed to you
as soon as possible.
The Original:
Please keep in mind that the original image is penciled, inked, then colored with Adobe Photoshop.
This means that a colored version of your work ONLY exists in a digital format. The Original you
receive is the black and white, pen and ink version. No colors, no names, just pen and ink
on bristol board (if its a character sketch) or stadard printing paper (if it's a sig icon).
Matting:
Matting is highly recommended as it provides additional protection during
shipping, and means that the original work arrives ready to frame. Most
completed images are matted to 8x10 inches to make it easy to find a frame.
The cost of matting is $12. You are not charged for the time I spend matting
the image, only the materials.
Framing:
I use 1 inch deep. metal, sectional frames that I assemble myself to frame
original work. These parts cost $20 or more, depending on the size of the piece.
I strongly advise you to purchase your own frame as you will likely find
something you like for much less money. As with matting, you are not charged for
the time to frame your image, only the materials.
Shipping:
Shipping and Handling is $5 via US Priority Post. International Orders have two shipping
options: Air Freight and Global Priority. Air Freight costs $5 and takes 7 to 10 business
days. Global Priority costs $10 and takes 3-4 business days. Please allow two to four
weeks after the commission is complete for delivery.
Invoices: ~IMPORTANT!~
Every GU Commission is invoiced, but from this point on (July 20th, 2002)
invoices will be e-mailed to you rather than shipped with your original artwork. If you
require a physical invoice, please let me know before the commission is complete.
International shipping laws require duty be paid on all international purchases. So,
it is important that you understand that you are paying for the TIME I spend drawing
and coloring the piece. You are NOT paying for the original artwork. The original
artwork is my gift to you. You are not required to pay duty on gifts. If you do not
live in the US and you require a physical receipt, be warned that ALL packages crossing
international borders can legally be searched. The inclusion of a physical receipt may
force authorities to interpret the 'gift' as a 'purchase'. You may then be charged duty.
Request physical receipts at you own financial risk.
Disclaimer: I reserve the right to decline any commission request for any reason. All quotes
are in US denominations
